The final week of the regular season begins today across Major League Baseball.

There are three games Monday, Sept. 21, as the fall also gets underway. As for the rest of the week, there are 43 games remaining in MLB’s regular season schedule. This weekend will see the final 45 games played.

Baseball’s Postseason picture is shaping up. Credit to MLB for the below graphic going into tonight’s first pitch, which will take place in Baltimore between the Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays, followed by the Washington Nationals at Detroit Tigers.

The Minnesota Twins will play at the San Francisco Giants to end tonight’s schedule of MLB games.

Top seeds

The top seeds would come from small markets, as the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers own the two best records in baseball.

The Brewers have the best overall record, and they are doing so in a historic fashion. On Sunday, Sept. 20, the team clinched its franchise-best 98th win, moving Milwaukee to 98-58 atop the National League Central Division.

The Rays will only clinch the American League East on the road. They will play at the New York Yankees beginning with a Tuesday doubleheader, then the Rays will finish the season in Philadelphia against a Phillies team entering Monday night one game behind the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres, who are tied for the top NL Wild Card spot.

The Yankees, however, are still in contention to win the AL East. Their magic number for elimination is two games, though, and will host the Orioles this weekend for what will be an interesting matchup given where Baltimore’s Postseason status will be after this week’s home series with the Rangers.

What will Tampa Bay need to do to ensure the AL East crown?

Junior Caminero is working on taking over the AL home run lead and keeping the Triple Crown from Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez. Caminero has 41 as of tonight, and Alvarez is one behind at 40.

For Tampa Bay, it’s a team looking to win its first division title since 2021. It’s a team in a crowded AL East, leading bigger markets New York and Boston by six games.

Caminero, who is 23 years old, is having a career year at the plate. He’s reaching base at a higher rate than his three previous seasons, owning a .363 on-base percentage, along with a career-best .277 batting average.

The third baseman will help the Rays try and clinch the division against the Yankees, who’s magic number of two will be put to the test at home this week.

The AL Central

One of the most dramatic races in baseball is shaping up in the AL Central.

Cleveland overtook the Chicago White Sox last Friday, Sept. 18, and enters tonight ahead of them by one game.

The AL West

The AL West will be entertaining as well. The Texas Rangers lead rival Houston by one game.

Who will host the NL Wild Card rounds?

While each NL division leader is likely determined, the race for who hosts the other Wild Card round is tight.

The Padres have gone 9-1 over their past 10 games to tie the Cubs for the top NL Wild Card spot. Meanwhile, Chicago is 6-4 and Philadelphia is 4-6 over the last 10 games.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are the only NL team that hasn’t been eliminated. Their magic number is three, and they will go on the road to wrap up the regular season at Colorado for three and at the Padres this weekend.
