Carlos Sanchez goes HR shy of cycle, Dragons set to face Whitecaps lefty Ben Jacobs on Wednesday

DAYTON — Shortstop Carlos Sanchez and the Dragons delivered when it mattered most on Tuesday, as the 21-year-old Dayton infielder drove in go-ahead hits in multiple innings during the team’s 8-5 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Sanchez collected four hits and as many RBIs in five at-bats against West Michigan during the series opener Tuesday. He hit a three-run triple and a go-ahead single to help Dayton snap the Whitecaps five-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, Sanchez and the Dragons are scheduled to rematch the Whitecaps this time against left-handed pitcher Ben Jacobs, who was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Jacobs played at Arizona State, and he brings a 1-0 record with a 3.60 ERA into Wednesday’s game at Dayton.

Jacobs ranks as Detroit’s No. 15 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline.
