The Cincinnati Reds are 2-2 after their first four Spring Training games. They split Saturday’s split-squad contests 6-3 against Cleveland and 8-7 at Milwaukee, then followed Sunday’s 5-2 loss at San Francisco with an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.
Newly acquired infielder Gavin Lux and right-handed starting pitcher Brady Singer have shined early so far in Spring Training. Lux’s three RBIs are tied for second on the team as he’s gone 2-for-5 with a double at the plate. Singer pitched two scoreless innings against the Dodgers striking out four while walking one and allowing two hits.
Two of Cincinnati’s highly regarded position prospects have also taken some of the spotlight.
Cam Collier collects a double for his first hit of Spring Training
The Reds first-round draft pick at No. 18 overall in 2022, Collier got himself on the board with his first hit of the spring with a double to right field against the Giants on Sunday.
Collier started the game hitting ninth and playing first base. That’s a position Collier hasn’t yet played in his 239-game Minor League career.
Sal Stewart goes opposite field for his first home run of Spring Training
Stewart’s 2024 season was cut short due to injury in July. He appeared in 80 games with High-A Dayton and hit .279/.391/.845 adding 23 doubles, eight home runs and 53 RBIs.
The No. 32 overall draft pick in 2023 received an invite to big-league Spring Training with Cincinnati, and Stewart has hits in two of the three games he’s played in this spring. On Monday, he went deep.
